Xi’an Shiyou University (XSYU), a remarkable university characterized by petro & petro-chemical science education; a university boasts a history of more than 60 years.

Founded in the year 1951, Xi’an Shiyou University is the first institute since the foundation of the People’s Republic of China to cultivate petro & petro-chemical technicians. Located in the Northwest China, XSYU remains to be the one and only multidisciplinary university featuring petro & petro-chemical science education. It is also a university entitled by the Ministry of Education of China to accept Chinese Government Scholarship Students, as well as a university jointly sponsored by Shaanxi provincial government and the three national oil corporations, namely, CNPC (China National Petroleum & Gas Corporation), SINOPEC Group (China Petrochemical Corporation), and CNOOK (China National Offshore Oil Corporation). As the focal venue for early Muslim immigrants, Xi’an boasts a unique Muslim culture, where you can taste the Muslim flavors in the much famed Muslim street, or visit the Grand Mosque of Xi’an listed as world heritage of Islamism by UNESCO. XSYU has 2 campuses, the total floor space of which amounts to 2207.15 mu (147 hectares or 365 acres). The total fixed assets value at 1.67 billion. As a university picked by the Ministry of Education in the Education and Training Program for Excellent Engineers, it consists of 17 colleges and departments, provides 56 undergraduate programs, 58 postgraduate programs, 1 joint doctorate program, and enrolls 20,000 strong residing students. So far, more than 100,000 graduates have set sail here, including Gu Xinyi, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. After 60 years’ development, XSYU now has clustered within itself a group of characteristic disciplines, including Petroleum Engineering, Geologic Engineering, Chemical and Chemistry Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration. Programs such as Petroleum Engineering, Resource Exploration Engineering, Measurement-Control Technologies & Instrument, Computer Science and Technology, Mechanical design and manufacture & its automation, Process Equipment & Control Engineering, Accounting, Oil-Gas Storage and Transport Engineering, software Engineering, Material Forming & Control Engineering are separately honored as “National Brand Program”, “Brand Program of Shaanxi Province”, “Programs Unique to Shaanxi Province”.

The number of teaching and administrative staff of XSYU has now reached more than 1600, including 1000 full-time teachers, 500 strong professors and associate professors, 300 strong master or doctoral supervisors, 660 strong teachers possess master or doctorate degree.

Orienting to the needs of energy industry, XSYU attaches great importance to scientific research. In the last 3 years, the total research funds have surpassed 300 million. In the last 5 years, 47 projects have won national or provincial awards of science and technology, of which 2 with National Science Awards. 613 research articles have made SCI, EI and ISTP.

Xi’an Shiyou University has long-standing cooperation and exchange with 39 universities from countries like the USA, the Great Britain, Germany, and Russian, etc. By working with them, XSYU is able to offer programs like“1+2+1 Sino-American Dual Degree Program”, “4+2 Undergraduate-Postgraduate Program”, “3+1 Junior-College Program.” Moreover, XSYU also offers “Russian Language Student Exchange Program”, “Paid Summer Internship in U.S.A”.

XSYU enrolls international students all over the world. Currently, XSYU offers undergraduate programs both in Chinese and English medium, postgraduate programs in Chinese, Chinese language programs, refresher courses and so on. Of later, XSYU enrolls more than 300 international students on a yearly basis.

The campus of XSYU is much like a beautiful wooded forest, furnished here and there with modern labs and classrooms, book-packed library, spacious Chinese food dining hall, Muslim canteen, gym, stadium, swimming pool and what not. The living here is very convenient.
